How do I hear from this God that people talk about? What is the unconditional Love encounter that I long to know more about?
This journey will take you to and through your heart colliding with Heaven.
There are four simple ways to press into this, but in upcoming posts, I will go into more detail for each one.
First, quiet yourself down. Stillness, inner stillness. (better to be completely still, but you can still your mind and heart while doing dishes, or other automatic activities also.)
Then fix your eyes on Jesus, looking for what He wants to show you.
Then recognize God’s voice as spontaneous thoughts that come to mind, whether through pictures you see, Scripture verses that come to mind or words.
Write them down and then ask Him what they mean or what He wants to say to you about them.
Pause, then wait.
..listen.
Prayer will become a dialogue, not a monologue. It is our link to God. Prayer is supposed to be powerful, effective, and meaningful in our lives. Yet many times it becomes a dutiful obligation, when it should be a dynamic dialogue.
God yearns to be your friend. He wants you to recognize His voice so that you can get to know Him personally. He longs for you to spend time with Him, having no agenda. He wants you to offer Him your physical senses, the faculties of your soul, and the senses of your spirit so that you can know Him fully and deeply. He wants you to move out of your box and into His flow, out of your mind and into your heart, out of rationalism into true spiritual Christianity.
Christianity is a relationship to be lived, not merely a theory to be proved.
Here are a few things to meditate and think on before getting started:
The main purpose for learning to hear God’s voice is so that I might really know Him– His heart, His joys, His desires, His hurts, His character, His will.
The Holy Spirit will mold my prayer life, instead of me taking the principles of prayer God has shown me and reducing them to legalistic bondage.
The essence of prayer is my relationship with the King of Kings, not simply going to Him to get things.
Spirit-born specific action and power flow as a natural result of my love relationship, causing the activities of my life to be of the Spirit and not the flesh. This keeps my relationship with the King of Kings from being simply self-indulgent and on my part and helps me to realize that many others need to be touched by His love, as well.
These four simple steps are from Habakkuk 2:1-4.
I will stand on my guard post
And station myself on the rampart;
And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me,
And how I may reply when I am reproved.
Then the Lord answered me and said,
“ Record the vision
And inscribe it on tablets,
That the one who reads it may run.
“For the vision is yet for the appointed time;
It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
For it will certainly come, it will not delay.
